A Few Updates

August 18, 2012
1. We know the Apologia MicroChem kit is a little on the expensive side, and so we are not requiring it. We may well use it outside of the official co-op umbrella, but it will not be required for Science Club proper. It still looks pretty cool, though.

2. Colored writing implements are highly recommended for those of you who are visual learners!

3. This is going to be a really cool year in Science Club, but we will have to work pretty hard at it. It won't be easy, and since there are just enough weeks in the co-op schedule for us to complete the year at the rate of 1 module per 2 weeks, if we want to do anything extra (like a really cool Science Fair project*), we will have to push pretty hard. I think it will end up being well worth your while, and you will be glad you ran the course (so to speak).

-David McGuire (Science Club Member)

*This is probably the most conducive subject in the highschool sciences for good science fair projects, and as the co-op has a science fair that we traditionally take part in, we may as well take advantage of this year and give it our best shot yet!
I also have a few ideas pertaining to this that I may reveal later...

This year: Chemistry

August 10, 2012
We (the Science Club of 2012-2013 to-be) are excited to get started on the tough new adventure of Apologia Chemistry. By all reports (and some sneak-peeking...), it will not be nearly as messy a year, and we will be able to dispense with the formaldehyde smell. Phew!

In return for that boon, however, we get the blessing of a bunch of algebra. Oh, yes. Chemistry isn't actually all about blowing things up...I've heard that it involves quite a bit of math, mostly predicting reactions (in the real...

Organelles & Cellular Respiration!

December 3, 2011
Dear Science Club,

Impressed! That is the only way to describe your fortitude and stamina today as you embraced the toughest module this year. Not only did you conquer mountains of vocabulary words (yes, the Organelle Charades DID help), but you worked through the atoms, molecules, and bonds to uncover the mysteries of energy from glucose (thanks, Mrs. Farmer for the square paper "atoms/molecules").

I am also impressed with your eager attitudes and commitment to understanding the material and n...
